Who We Are

A company built
on a 20-year
horizon.

Midān is a small software company in Hyderabad. We build products that help people, and the institutions they rely on, work better together. The throughline is simple: we care whether what we make actually improves life for the person at the end of it. Everything else follows from that.

Midān
The Name
maidān / میدان
An open public square or ground

Historically, the space at the heart of a city where people gathered, traded, debated, and organised. The lungs of the old city, where nothing was hidden and everything got decided.

maidān / میدان
A field of contest or endeavour

The domain in which something is built, tested, or won. Used figuratively to mean the arena in which one operates with skill and purpose. The ground you choose to stand on.

Midān
This company

A Hyderabad software company building products, and the policy thinking around them, for the parts of life that touch the most people. We started with education, civic life, and how AI should be governed.

The Origin

Built from first principles.
Not a pivot.

Midān didn't start from a gap in the market. It started from a few beliefs about what software should do, and who it should be for. The products reflect that. So does the writing.

The thinking behind it draws on community work, institutional design, a real interest in policy, and a stubborn preoccupation with why organisations so often fail the people they exist to serve. That's not a niche. It's a way of seeing problems, and it travels across whatever field we pick up.

We're building this for the long arc, not the sprint. The plan has always been to make something that compounds over time and is still standing, still honest, long after the moment it began in.

What We Believe Four foundations
I — Value
Genuine value, never manufactured attention

Every product earns its place by actually helping, not by exploiting your time, manufacturing anxiety, or farming your engagement. We're not competing for attention. We're competing for trust. Those are different games, with different ways of winning.

II — Honesty
We tell you what the data shows

Straight answers, even when they're not the ones anyone hoped for. That honesty is exactly what makes our good news worth trusting, and it's the whole reason to bring in a partner like us.

III — Design
The person comes first

Whoever's paying, a school, a company, a government department, the one who matters is the person the system is meant to serve. The parent. The student. The community. We build for them, even when they're not the ones signing the cheque.

IV — Horizon
Built to outlast us. The 20–30 year view.

We make every call with a 20–30 year horizon, not a quarterly one. The aim is to build something that's still here after the moment that started it, that leaves the institutions around it a little more answerable, and that we can look back on with honest pride.

How We Work

Built to last,
built for people.

We earn our living from software: tools we own, build for many people at once, and keep improving over time. That model is what lets us stay honest. Because we're funded by what we build rather than by any single client, we can always tell you what the data actually shows.

We love working alongside institutions, including government, NGOs, and schools, on clear projects with open data and honest findings. That's a big part of the plan. It just sits on top of the products, which is what keeps the whole thing steady enough to be around in twenty years.
